Hydrate With Facial Oil
Every skin type needs hydration, no matter how oily or dry it can be, and my favourite way of getting that moisture boost is by using face oils at night. Most people overlook using oils, thinking they could make the skin spotty or clog pores – but a good facial oil will brighten the skin and make it feel plumped, soft and hydrated. I love using natural oils and find these give the best results!
Use Dry Shampoo
Like most of the British public, I am obsessed with dry shampoo! It does so much more than just disguising unwashed hair, and once you get to grips on other ways to use it, it can change your hair routine. I use it to skip hair washes throughout the week, to create volume and for separating beach waves. I can’t imagine being without it – I probably use a can a week! Nowadays, dry shampoo is so much more advanced. You can buy it specifically for volume and texture, with colour to hide grown-out roots, or with added conditioning spray. Try experimenting with newer formulas to find the hero product for your needs.
Exfoliate For Better Foundation Coverage
Have you ever found your foundation clinging to dry patches on the skin? That means your skin needs exfoliating! A good facial exfoliator is an essential part of any skincare regime. Depending on the type and strength of the chosen product, it is a good idea to exfoliate once a week in order to get rid of any dead skin cells, clean out your pores and make your skin glow. The world of exfoliators is often difficult to decipher; you want something that is gentle on your skin, but tough enough to work. I like sugar-based or mineral-based exfoliators that aren’t too drying on the skin that make your skin feel smooth, soft and a perfect base for makeup.
Apply Mascara With A Fan Brush
One tip I’ve learnt from being a professional makeup artist is to use a mini fan brush when applying mascara. It gives that gorgeously clean, fluttery look. Using the fan, literally paint your lashes with mascara from root to tip and you’ll notice less clumping – the lashes become really defined and softer looking. It takes a little longer to create a build up for a thick lash but the results are worth it! The fan brush is also great for applying mascara on the bottom lashes as a mascara wand is often too big.
Highlight With Balm
I love dewy, highlighted skin that looks fresh and glowing. But I’m not so into glittery, pearly highlighters that resemble the skin tone of the Tin Man! Skin should look exactly as it is but better, so I prefer to use balmy, glossy textures for highlighting, rather than shimmer powders or metallic sticks. A little Vaseline is a cheap way of trying out the look, but there are many beauty balms and oil sticks out there to create the perfect, natural highlight.
